How to Refresh Firefox in Windows


If you're having problems with Firefox, refreshing it can help. The refresh feature fixes many issues by restoring Firefox to its default state while saving your essential information like bookmarks, passwords, and open tabs.

All of your Firefox settings and personal information are stored in a profile folder. The refresh feature works by creating a new profile folder for you while saving your important data.

Add-ons which are normally stored inside the Firefox profile folder, such as extensions and themes, will be removed. Add-ons stored in other locations, such as plugins, will not be removed but any modified preferences (such as plugins you have disabled) will be reset.

Firefox will save these items:

• Bookmarks
• Browsing and download history
• Passwords
• Open windows and tabs
• Cookies
• Web form auto-fill information
• Personal dictionary

These items and settings will be removed:

• Extensions and themes
• Website permissions
• Modified preferences
• Added search engines
• DOM storage
• Security certificate and device settings
• Download actions
• Toolbar customizations
• User styles (chrome subfolder containing userChrome and/or userContent CSS files, if previously created.)

When you refresh Firefox, your old Firefox profile will be placed on your desktop in a folder named Old Firefox Data. If the refresh didn't fix your problem you can restore some of the information not saved by copying files to the new profile that was created in the %AppData%\Mozilla folder. If you don't need this folder any longer, you should delete it as it contains sensitive information.

Here's How:

1. Open Firefox.
2. Click/tap on the Menu button

, and click/tap on the Help button

3. Click/tap on Troubleshooting Information. (see screenshot below)



4. Click/tap on Refresh Firefox. (see screenshot below)



5. Click/tap on Refresh Firefox again to confirm. (see screenshot below)



6. Firefox will close to refresh itself. When finished, a window will list your imported information. You can click/tap on Finish or wait for Firefox to open. (see screenshots below)

New Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox

Anyone who uses Windows Vista and Mozilla Firefox may be pleased to hear that the Windows Media Player team has now released a plugin for Firefox that should allow the browser to play WMP content on websites. Here are the steps to get it working:

• Installation of the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin may require administrative access to your PC. It is recommended that you close all other open browser windows before continuing with the installation.
• Click the Install button to automatically download and install the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin.
• Depending on your security settings, you may see a Security Warning dialog box. Click Install to install the plugin.

There is a known issue if you are using Firefox version 2.0.0.3 on Windows Vista with the installer failing with error code -203. To work around this simply restart Firefox (you will get a notification that Windows Vista will be changing the Firefox compatibility settings) and then install again - the second time should succeed.

The download is available here, and the new plugin works on all versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista (although it is mostly intended for Vista, as that currently has no WMP support in Firefox).

Some issues with firefox

This is not really good advice, as Firefox Refresh does not do what most people expect it to do, and leaves the users quite confused and not knowing what to do. For examples of this, go to Index page mozillaZine Forums ; there, in the Search/Boards: box, enter Refresh, then read a few of the links that provides.

My suggestion is, rather, to use the standard Fx diagnostic tests to try to isolate and fix the problem(s):

Video Issues in Windows 10 With Firefox

Please provide the following information with us to understand the issue better.

• 
  Is the issue occurs in Microsoft Edge?
  

• 
  Let us know whether the issue is specific to online videos or it is happening with other videos present in your system too?
  
  As the initial troubleshooting steps, I would suggest you to check all the available Windows Updates. Installation of recent Windows Updates should fix the issue.
  
  If the issue still persists, then try updating the Display driver and check. Here is the steps:
  

• Press Windows Key + R on your desktop screen to go to run command box.
• Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
• In Display Adapter, expand Display Adapter, right-click , and then click
  Update.

If the issues persists ,only with firefox then i suggest you to contact firefox support.

Suggestion - GPU-Z window Reload (refresh)

Thanks! *Smile Sounds fine (Ctrl+R as a 2nd way to do the same would be nice too).
IF you do not want to overburden the main window GUI with the extra Refresh button I suggest, Refresh could be added to the system menu in top left instead, and/or into Settings.
(such as add a button labeled "Refresh main tab" or similar text of your choosing to Settings)

 

Firefox does not work on start up

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall Firefox
and check if it fixes the issue. Follow the steps below to uninstall
Firefox:

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click on Programs and Features.
• Look for Firefox and right click on it and click on
  uninstall.
• Reboot the computer after uninstall is complete and try to reinstall them.
