    hello

    i have a big problem. i think windows updates destroyed my windows defender. since the update today ( windows defender v 1.313.1666.0 ) my windows defender stops working after 2 min every time. i need to restart it via "services" but agian a few min later it will say again "threat protection has stopped" with a red mark. when i click "restart windows defender" it gives me unexpected error. so starting it only works via "services"

    my hard drive is new and i am an experienced user. yesterday everything worked perfectly. it all started today when i got the notification of an update for windows defender (i get these notifications only if the update seems to be important).

    now i installed kaspersky and made a quick check, and it says everything is clean. kaspersky is permanently working, never turning off. so i assume it is the windows update that destroyed my defender.

    i also tried the disable "turn off windowd defender" in group policies and manually added the DisableAntiSpyware and set it to zero in the registry. on a restarts, strangely that registry entry i added disappeared.

    so yeah. anyone knows how to solve this? or maybe any way to reset windows defender only and make it repair itsel / do the updates a new. or uninstall the previous windows defender update maybe? i couldnt find a way to do so.

    EDIT: it is a bug. but it is possible to temporarly solve it. this bug occurs when you have a dot before the extension. (example file: hello..txt ) so basically 2 dots meet each other between the name and the extension. in the past this was no issue for win defender. since the update it seems to be an issue

    virus and threat protection

    Virus and threat protection has stopped and will not restart, Windows 10 ver 1709, antimalware client ver 4.12.16299.15 . SuperAntiSpyware installed.

    I have tried most of the suggestions from the support pages, all have been ineffective. Any suggestions

    NOTICE: After, installing 1909 update, Windows Defender, Virus and Threat protection, is / was "OFF". IS this common? Is this a bug? NO MESSAGE appeared in my Notification Area.. ONLY, by chance, did I notice, and turn it back on. I'd suggest.. AT
    ALL TIMES.. 'WHENEVER' MY virus protection is turned off.. BY DEFAULT... I 'SHOULD' BE NOTIFIED! YOUR thoughts on this?

    Well:

    Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection might stop running
    The Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) service might stop running and might fail to send reporting data. You might also receive a 0xc0000409 error in Event Viewer on MsSense.exe.
    Affected platforms:

    • Client: Windows 10, version 1809; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019
    • Server: Windows Server, version 1809; Windows Server 2019
    Next steps: At this time, we suggest that devices in an affected environment do not install KB4520062. We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in mid-November.
