    Thumbnail Cache Rebuilding Automatically?

Hi. I have two SSDs in my laptop, one of which contains Windows and a few programs, and the other drive is Bitlocker encrypted and contains documents, pictures and games. I am noticing that just recently, my thumbnail cache has rebuilding itself quite frequently, often after a reboot. When I browse my files in Windows Explorer I have to wait for the thumbnails to be re-generated.

I read about this problem a while ago, where Windows would wipe the thumbnail cache as part of automatic maintenance. I installed a registry edit that was supposed to solve the issue. But I am still having the same trouble. Neither of the two drives in the laptop are anywhere close to being at full capacity. Any ideas?

  2. Thumbnail cache keeps rebuilding every time automatic maintenance runs since fall creators update

Every single pc i have used since the fall creators update has a habit of deleting and then forcing rebuilding of the thumbnail cache everytime automatic maintenance runs. Seems a widely spread bug. I dont want to turn automatic maintenance off as we value
clean up operations but this thumbnail issue is frustrating. To go into a folder and wait for the thumbnails to redraw looks lame. I heard going into registry under volume caches and setting the thumbnail cache autoruns DWORD to 0 is a workaround fix to stop
this. But are there any side effects to doing this? I cant believe the lack of QA yet again from microsoft. Surely something like this should of been picked up.

    cheers, Wayne

  3. Thumbnail cache and icon cache rebuilding after a feature update?

I was curious about the thumbnail cache and icon cache. Do these rebuild themselves after a feature update? I have a small issue with some icons. It so insignificant that I won’t bother manually rebuilding the icon cache but just wondered if a feature update forces something like this seeing as it already returns some windows 10 settings to default (such as system restore being off by default)

    thanks

  4. Thumbnail Cache Rebuilding Automatically?

    No thumbnails for pics/videos

    Hello,

Suggest you to reset thumbnail cache.

    Try these steps:

    1. Right click on Start Button and select Command Prompt (Admin).

    2. Type following commands one-by-one and press Enter after each:

    taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

    del /f /s /q /a %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_*.db

    start explorer.exe

    3. Reboot the machine, which should rebuild thumbnail cache.

Let us know if this helps!
