  1. Thumbnails not appearing for mp4 files

Hello, I have been trying to fix this issue however, it looks like every solution I find does not work. The previews of png images is shown, however, mp4 files have the Media Player logo on them and it looks like I cannot show the thumbnails in anyway... I tried large icons, file explorer options and none of them worked. These are my Windows specification: Edition Windows 11 Home Version 23H2 Installed on ‎22/‎02/‎2024 OS build 22631.4037 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1027.0

Thumbnails for Video Files (such as mp4) Are Not Working

Within the last couple of days, thumbnails for video files (particularly mp4) seem to have stopped appearing. New files would not get thumbnails, while thumbnails for older files remained. Even more odd, these new mp4 files would receive thumbnails while
being uploaded to OneDrive, but would lose their thumbnails after uploading / syncing was complete.

Recently, I cleared my thumbnail cache using Disk Cleanup, but that did not fix the issue. Instead, I lost all of my thumbnails, including the ones that remained for the older mp4 files (I have done the obvious as well, such as refreshing my Windows Explorer
session following disk cleanup and even rebooting). So, I tried clearing the thumbnail cache again using an administrative command prompt, and I got the same result.

Is there any way to fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

  3. Thumbnails no longer generating for .mp4 files

I recently installed and uninstalled a bunch of programs (which I believe caused the issue).

Afterwards, for some reason, only .mp4 files will no longer generate thumbnails in the explorer. Any new .mp4 file I create now shows up as a default blank thumbnail. Existing .mp4 files (before the issue came up) still retained their thumbnails. All other
types of files are showing up fine.

I deleted the thumbnail cache, and all thumbnails regenerated except .mp4 files.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thank you.

  4. Thumbnails not appearing for mp4 files

.MP4 files lose their thumbnails in the Win 10 Photos app, when viewing in "Collection" mode.

    First:

    Win 10 Home.

    Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.576).

    Microsoft Photos 16.1118.10000.0.

    All available update applied.

Everything, that I know of, works perfectly, except for the following very odd issue with the Photos app.

I power on my pc and then start the Photos app.

I choose the "Collection" option to view all of my files.

Some of my files are .jpg's and some are .mp4's.

Initially, the "Collection" view shows thumbnails for all of my files. Both the .jpg's and the .mp4's.

    And this is great.

Most times, I can end the Photos app and restart it several times a day and everything looks good.

But occasionally, when I restart the Photos app, I see thumbnails for all of the .jpg files BUT, instead of having a unique thumbnail for each .mp4 file, I have instead, a grey box, with a round circle in the middle, for each .mp4 file.

I can double click on these boxes and the .mp4 files play just fine.

It's just that my thumbnails have been replaced with these grey boxes.

What always works (to return the .mp4 thumbnails), is to restart the pc.

When the photos app stops showing the thumbnails, if I navigate to the folder that holds the .mp4 files, they all show as little thumbnails in file manager. (As they should.)

It's just the Photos app no longer shows the thumbnails for the .mp4 files.

The thumbnails for the .jpg's do continue to appear in the Photos "Collection" view.

Anyone else have this very odd issue ?

Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.
