  1. Thunderbolt Networking is Broken in Later Versions of Windows 10

    Hi, there.

There seems to be an issue regarding Thunderbolt Networking a feature of Thunderbolt which establishes a peer-to-peer connection emulating a virtual Ethernet adapter where file transfers to a host stall in any version of Windows 10 Home beyond build 1809. Downloads from a remote host work fine, but uploads do not.

I wanted to reach out to the community to see if there is a consensus on this feature being broken. I am using a QNAP Thunderbolt 3 TB3 NAS QNAP model TS-453BT3 as the host with a Lenovo Yoga 920 model Yoga 920-13IKB Laptop [ideapad] - Type 80Y7.

I have done extensive testing on this issue including loading numerous builds of Windows 10 Home to isolate where the problem begins. I've detailed this on the QNAP forums. As long as I do not update the OS beyond build 1809, the functionality works correctly.

There is another issue with the TB3 connectivity which may or may not be related to Windows 10. The laptop will, after a period of time, select the lower-power connected source e.g. the NAS over the high-power source e.g. the Dock to attempt to charge. Of course, the system discharges faster than it can charge, and it will not switch back until you disconnect the lower-power source. This is a real problem when you're trying to use the NAS as an attached drive.

I've sent my Lenovo in for repair on multiple occasions for both issues. Each time, they replace the motherboard in an attempt to address. I've heard others have had success running a different OS e.g. Linux. Also, my Macs have zero problem with the transactions with the same device using the same connectivity.

Please let me know if this sounds familiar and whether you've heard anything from Microsoft recognizing the issues.

    :)

  2. thunderbolt 3 to displayport adapter

    Hi John,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that inconvenience you are facing when the things may not work as expected.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer?

When the Thunderbolt 3 is used with certain eighth generation Intel processor-based Windows 10 systems, there is a possibility that the two USB 3.0 ports on the back of the dock (closest to the Ethernet port)
may not be recognized properly by the operating system.

However, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

    1. Disconnect the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock from the system and remove its power cable to turn off completely.
    2. Uninstall the Intel ‘Thunderbolt Software’ present on your system via the Control Panel ->
Programs and Features and restart the device once.
    3. Download and install the latest version of the Intel Thunderbolt Software published by your system manufacturer. If you are unable to obtain this download from your system manufacturer, you can download a version directly from Intel
      here -> https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC8i7HNK-NUC8i7HVK
    4. Restart the system once again.
    5. Reconnect the power cable to the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock, and then reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 cable from the dock to your system.
    6. You should be prompted to authenticate/approve the dock. Follow the onscreen prompts for the completion of the process and check the status of the issue.

If the issue still persists I suggest you to get in touch with the
Thunderbolt support for the further assistance.

    Hope it helps.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Windows 10 Update 1709 Blue Screens with Thunderbolt SSDs.

Hello. I am currently running Windows 10 version 1703 on an 2013 Apple 27" iMac via Bootcamp. I have an external Thunderbolt SSD connected. This works very well. However, Windows keeps trying to update to version 1709. When this happens, the computer
blue screens with a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION. I have isolated this issue to the external Thunderbolt device. If I unplug the Thunderbolt, the update completes successfully. But when I plug the Thunderbolt devices back in, Windows will no longer boot, again
    blue screening with the MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.

I have to disconnect the Thunderbolt drive to get Windows to boot, then roll back the install to 1703 for the computer to be usable again with the Thunderbolt device.

    Any suggestions?
