  1. Thunderbolt port- can it be used to charge the device?

Hey there,My brother just got a new Dell Vostro as a gift, and the specs are pretty impressive. The device comes with a Thunderbolt port but I don't know the type.Yesterday after finishing the setup and leaving it in hibernation, the battery died. The adapter works and the light glows up but the device isn't charging. I wanted to test if the TB port can be used for charging. I've read many articles and none of them are convincing. So my questions are:Can I charge it through the TB port? What type of cable is required? Any special one? I have a USB Type-C charger from a Redmi 9 Power and it fits w

  2. Viewing Thunderbolt ports in Device Manager (Windows 10)

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query related to finding Thunderbolt ports in Device Manager.

Usually, when you install Windows 10 on a PC, the drivers are automatically installed through Windows Updates. The Thunderbolt port can be found under System Devices in Device Manager. You may want to check by connecting a device to the Thunderbolt
port and see if you are able to use the Device.

Let us know if you need any further assistance, we will be glad to assist you.

Viewing Thunderbolt ports in Device Manager (Windows 10)

I have a Mac Pro here which I can dual-boot into Windows 10 (in fact I tend to use Windows more often than MacOS !!)

The Mac Pro has 6 x Thunderbolt ports (though at the moment, I don't have any Thunderbolt devices). But when I open Windows Device Manager it doesn't show the 6 Thunderbolt ports. Do I need to install a Thunderbolt driver (or device) for them to show up
    - or are they called something else under Windows?

Or does Win10 simply not support them??

  4. Thunderbolt port- can it be used to charge the device?

    thunderbolt 3 to displayport adapter

    Hi John,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that inconvenience you are facing when the things may not work as expected.

    1. What is the make and model of the computer?

When the Thunderbolt 3 is used with certain eighth generation Intel processor-based Windows 10 systems, there is a possibility that the two USB 3.0 ports on the back of the dock (closest to the Ethernet port)
may not be recognized properly by the operating system.

However, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

    1. Disconnect the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock from the system and remove its power cable to turn off completely.
    2. Uninstall the Intel ‘Thunderbolt Software’ present on your system via the Control Panel ->
Programs and Features and restart the device once.
    3. Download and install the latest version of the Intel Thunderbolt Software published by your system manufacturer. If you are unable to obtain this download from your system manufacturer, you can download a version directly from Intel
      here -> https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC8i7HNK-NUC8i7HVK
    4. Restart the system once again.
    5. Reconnect the power cable to the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock, and then reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 cable from the dock to your system.
    6. You should be prompted to authenticate/approve the dock. Follow the onscreen prompts for the completion of the process and check the status of the issue.

If the issue still persists I suggest you to get in touch with the
Thunderbolt support for the further assistance.

    Hope it helps.
