Windows 10: Thunderbolt port is completely dead.

I noticed today that my Thunderbolt port was completely dead, no data or power. It worked before, no problem. It was showing up in Device Manager as having error code 28, no driver found. I tried everything, uninstalling and restarting, chipset drivers, I did a fresh install of windows 10, I even upgraded to windows 11, and the only thing that changed in Windows 11 is that it is no longer called Universal Serial Bus USB Controller. It is now USB4 Virtual Power Coordination Device and only shows up when "show hidden" is selected. I have contacted Asus, Microsoft and Amazon, nothing has worked

1. What is the make and model of the computer?
   
   
   

When the Thunderbolt 3 is used with certain eighth generation Intel processor-based Windows 10 systems, there is a possibility that the two USB 3.0 ports on the back of the dock (closest to the Ethernet port)
may not be recognized properly by the operating system.





However, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if that helps.

1. Disconnect the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock from the system and remove its power cable to turn off completely.
   
2. Uninstall the Intel ‘Thunderbolt Software’ present on your system via the Control Panel ->
   Programs and Features and restart the device once.
   
3. Download and install the latest version of the Intel Thunderbolt Software published by your system manufacturer. If you are unable to obtain this download from your system manufacturer, you can download a version directly from Intel

4. Restart the system once again.
   
5. Reconnect the power cable to the pluggable Thunderbolt 3 dock, and then reconnect the Thunderbolt 3 cable from the dock to your system.
   
6. You should be prompted to authenticate/approve the dock. Follow the onscreen prompts for the completion of the process and check the status of the issue.
   

If the issue still persists I suggest you to get in touch with the
Thunderbolt support for the further assistance.

Some computers' Thunderbolt port can only be used to communicate with the device, but some computers' Thunderbolt port can be used for charging. In theory, you can charge through the Thunderbolt port, but you need to consult the device manufacturer about whether your computer supports charging through the Thunderbolt port.

The charging power of the Thunderbolt port is not fixed, you need to purchase a suitable cable according to the charging power of your computer.

Hey there,

My brother just got a new Dell Vostro as a gift, and the specs are pretty impressive.

The device comes with a Thunderbolt port but I don't know the type.

Yesterday after finishing the setup and leaving it in hibernation, the battery died. The adapter works and the light glows up but the device isn't charging. I wanted to test if the TB port can be used for charging. I've read many articles and none of them are convincing.

So my questions are:

1. Can I charge it through the TB port?
   
2. What type of cable is required? Any special one? I have a USB Type-C charger from a Redmi 9 Power and it fits well.
   

I haven't even got to know the model number of the Vostro LOL, so if you need the model number, I'm sorry IDK because the laptop is dead.

And no, I don't need help in fixing the not-charging issue, it's at the Dell service centre now so it'll be fixed.



PS: if this should be in the Dell forums, I will create a thread there, but first I'd need opinions from you guys.
