  1. Tiff Files won't Open after being copied from portable SSD - Filename Length?

    Hi,

Hope someone can help me with this.

As part of my astrophotography workflow some of the software I use generates tiff files with longish names (around 114 characters and 52MB) - these are saved directly to a Samsung T5 portable SSD.

I then copy them to a Synology DiskStation (HDD) for backup purposes.

I haven't had any issues with this process since I started using it two years ago - until yesterday.

Now I am finding that some of these files wont open from the DiskStation although they still open fine from the T5 SSD. I have copied them across from T5 SSD to DiskStation again to be sure and T5 SSD works, DiskStation does not.

However, if I shorten the filename on the DiskStation they will open again - it appears the maximum filename that works is 109 characters. NB most of the files with long names continue to open normally on both drives.

The filename contains a lot of critical information, example below, so in practice shortening the name isn't an option, also as I mentioned, I haven't had any issues until yesterday.

Can anyone identify what is going on with these files?

    Thanks

    Jon

  2. converting multiple tiff files into one

    Hello SNOHOMY,

Open the Word file and then click File->Print from the application menu.

Choose TIFF Image Printer 11.0 from the list of printers and then click the Print button.

Enter the location and filename for the TIFF file and then click Save.

Open the JPEG image and click File->Print from the application menu.

Choose TIFF Image Printer 11.0 from the list of printers and then click the Print button.

Enter the same filename, choose TIFF Multipaged (*.tif) and check Append to file, then click Save.

Now open the Excel spreadsheet and click File->Print from the application menu.

Enter the same filename, choose TIFF Multipaged (*.tif) and check Append to file, then click Save.

Now all 3 files are merged together in a single TIFF file.

You can see it in a video

Hope it helps, have a good day

Tiff Files won't Open after being copied from portable SSD - Filename Length?

    Java.nio.file - Copying files

You can't copy a folder, thats why it generates an exception (you are trying to copy a folder using a copy file function).
You probably need to list all the files inside that folder and copy one by one
