Windows 10: Time font is too large on external monitor

I have external monitor and the time font gets too large there. The taskbar alert icons are not scaling correctly either. I consider the problem appeared when I dock my laptop. Just restarting helps.

Yes, shortly after posting I realized my solution fixed the external monitor and got rid of the huge font and boxes, but made the fonts and boxes small in my main monitor.

The problem for me is that I have a Surface Pro 4 (4k resolution) with an external monitor that's only 1080p. Since 4k is four times the resolution of 1080p then scaling is always off.

I fixed the issue by buying a 4k external monitor that I'll use for gaming and at the same time fix this issue. (they are spendy though). If both monitors have the same resolution the scaling will work.

I'm sorry that doesn't address the issue at all.

The issue is not about the size of desktop icons which your solution addresses.

Let me reiterate. It is the fonts and buttons of apps that look fuzzy and disproportionately large on the
external monitor only. These apps are: Office 365, Adobe Reader, Google Chrome.

Is this about scaling, and is there a fix?

To further isolate the concern, we suggest that you restore default settings and check if it helps. See steps below:

• Press the Windows key + X, and then click on Control
  Panel.
• Change the View by to large/small
  icons, and then click on Fonts.
• On the left pane, click on Font settings.
• Under Font settings, click on Restore default font settings.

If restoring the default font settings does not bring back the Times New Roman Regular font, we suggest that if you have another computer with Windows 10, you can copy the Times New Roman Regular font into your PC's Font folder.
