Time sync issues using domhier on handful of machines - NTP Authentication Extensions...

Have a batch of machines all with the same issue of being unable to sync time with any DC using domain hierarchy, and issue remained after upgrading these machines from Windows 10 to 11 as a Hail Mary. From deep debugging it seems as though the NTP Authentication Extensions are not functioning properly as expected calls aren't happening at all and no CLDAP/NTP/RPC traffic occurs after issuing a w32tm /resync /rediscover. Anyone seen this before and have any ideas how to troubleshoot this further? There's a bit of a blackbox with how W32Time implements NTP Authentication Extensions. Using regul

  2. NTP Time Sync

Yes, I realize it does this but is this the singular way? If the phone is strictly used on a Wi-Fi network does it use NTP to sync the time?

    NTP Help

Hi guys, I know this is not the site for bull**** networking but you've been the most reliable tech site I've ever been on for any computer stuff. So I've got a question about a network. I'm with the Marines, and we're running secure networks branching off from everywhere. I mean I'm in Japan right now. But we're trying to sync our hardware (Cisco devices, switches and routers) to NTP. I created a test setup with a router, easy as pie to sync that, but it was a direct connection from the router to our linksys gateway directly to the ISP. But in the real setup, we pull NTP data on every piece of hardware I set up to sync...we just don't sync. "Show NTP associations" shows full reach, stratum 3 servers all working perfect but our offsets are off (I'd love to know what the numbers for offset mean), but show ntp status shows no synchronization, not even a hint that it realizes it's got a working NTP server to pull off of. NTP is supposed to be an easy setup, but for over a month now myself and everyone I know have tried everything from our end to get a sync and we got nothing. Maybe it's not close enough to the NTP time, so we set the time and timezone a billion times, nothing there. I'm assuming since we can pull data from NTP servers, the port's gotta be open right? If it's impossible to sync because somewhere along the way a firewall is blocking it's UDP port, that's totally cool, then I'll have an excuse as to why we're gonna have to manually set clocks. But the fact that it pulls information (diagnostics at least, ping, offset, freq, stratum) I feel like we should be able to pull time, we just can't for some reason. If you guys have any idea what I can do please let me know. Thank you

instantaneously sync time via NTP after large offset on win10

One of my Win10 machines has a large time offset, in the order to weeks (its a VM that gets unpaused on request).

In the age of short-lived SSL certificates, it is crucial for many (web-based) operations to have correct time set. For precision reasons (and because I don't want to be bothered to "manually" remember the actual time) I'd like to use NTP.

Unfortunately, because the time offset is so large, when synching to an NTP server the time is either adjusted very slowly or discarded altogether, (making the time practically unusable until the next reboot).

So I thought about doing something like:

    • set the time manually to something approximately the wall-clock time
    • enable automatic time synchronization (NTP), to do the final adjustments

Unfortunately, the system is playing tricks on me, as this is what's actually happening:

    • I unpause the machine; it has a time of e.g. 2018-04-30 13:17
    • I login, right-click the clock, select "change time and date"
    • I switch off the automatic time synchronisation (as it was enabled in the paused machine)
    • I click on Change time/date
    • I set the date to approx the current date, e.g. 2018-06-13 10:35
    • I close the window via the Apply button, and see how the (almost) correct is displayed in the task-bar
    • I switch on the automatic time synchronisation again, to get the minutes and seconds right
    • the spinning wheel is displayed for a few seconds and then...
    • the time is restored to the old wrong value of 2018-04-30 13:17!

    What is going on here?

After a couple of minutes the time will eventually synchronize to the NTP server (it's working fine).

But how can I sync to the NTP-server instantaneously?
I really don't want to wait a couple of minutes to be able to use the machine,
as the machine's sole purpose is to provide a clean environment to try out small things quickly.
