    TimeBroker Service Unable to Logon

    Hello everyone,

I have an issue that causes my computer to randomly freeze after a restart once logged in. The mouse is still usable but I'm not able to click on the start menu or open most apps. Also the task-bar just goes blank. The only way to counter this is do restart by using alt+ctrl+delete and restart from there. Or I can wait it out which takes about 5 minutes. I will attach a screen shot what this looks like.

I checked the logs and I was given an error about the time broker which ill post in another screen shot.

With all of that said, it does not do it every boot, I am not sure what triggers it to do so but it seems like around every 7-10 boots it will do it once.

If anyone can please help me solve this that would be great!

    Thank you.

Runtime broker high CPU usage after upgrading to Windows 10.

try this it worked for me. run regedit and make the following change.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker] "Start"=dword:00000003

    Change the 3 to a 4.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TimeBroker] "Start"=dword:00000004

Check Task Manager in Administrative Tools also. Any third party Security software installed or network shares that it has to connect to. Also so you use an email to login or a userID? Was this a clean install or an upgrade to Windows 10. How long has this been going in? Have you also tried running sfc /scannow in a Command Window to see if it has found any issues?

I will try the scan, this was a clean install from yesterday.

There is no third party software or anything to connect to besides my wifi.

And did you mean task scheduler?

And there is just one local account.

    Thank you for your reply.

Ok I just did the scan, it said it found corrupt files and fixed them.

Maybe that was what was causing this, if so maybe it will stop. I'll post an update.

Anything could be causing the issue during the system still trying to do stuff. If you use an email to sign in, try switching to a local account to see if it happens. Since it is a clean install, double check the various metrics settings in System Settings and that Update is not set to look for other machines on network and trying to connect with other people across the Internet for updates. The only way to figure out the process & sub-process is to trace them and check the log files.

Thanks, I haven't had the issue happen again, but I'll know later. I have one local admin account. I have Windows Update disabled.

Update it is still doing it. I may have to do another clean install. I ran malware-bytes also with no issues found.

I ended up doing a fresh install of Windows. I have not seen the problem yet.

Updates can be set to be deferred, but should never be completely disabled unless you have a way to push them out after review or only downloading the IT set of security updates from microsoft.com. Download and use Log Parser to review what is going on also. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=24659
