Timeline Feature causes explorer.exe to crash

    I am currently using Windows 10 1909.

I was trying to delete a few activity history into my window 10 timeline

Then suddenly the screens go black for a second and comes back on

When i check the reliability history

it shows explorer.exe has stopped working

Seems like this only happens when i try to remove the timeline history one by one.

Here is what i have done so far

    sfc /scannow

    dism scanhealth

    dism restorehealth

    restarted explorer.exe

    disabled the Windows10 timeline

Here is a log from the Reliability History

Please confirm what happened when you tried the above mentioned steps.

If not then I would suggest you to try again.

  3. Windows explore crash when searching

The tenforums link solved this issue for me.

The root cause is a Windows 10 bug where File Explorer crashes when long file names are included in a search result. The steps for the workaround are:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Click View > Options
    • Open the View tab
    • Check "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
    • Click OK
