Windows 10: Tiny squares replace characters in office, the address bar, notepad and a few other apps...

Like the title states, I am having a problem with characters becoming squares/missing in several programs. Everything works fine after a reboot, but overtime more and more applications affected or more affected - sometimes it is just, say the menu in excel but the tabs are fine, other times it is just the tabs and summary, sometimes all three. But it does get worse as time goes on. Sometimes closing the app temporarily soles the problem in that app, but not always. Again rebooting and the issue goes away. using the replace feature in Notepad, is there a way to replace a character such as: "[" the left bracket say with a combinatioin to effect a "LineFeed and then the "[" bracket. really just element with special characters or elements, I think I'm beginning

No, no access to special characters for Search & Replace in Notepad.

You need a more powerful Editor/Word Processor or you could use PowerShell.

Replace Notepad in Windows 10 1909 with Dark Notepad

I don't find anything from Dark Notepad authors on how to set it as Default. So I would contact them through the link which appear at the bottom of their Download page in MS Store app, which every app maker must provide to support their app. Let them know
you're airing this in Microsoft Community forums where we are waiting to hear how they suggest to do this.

If your Dark Notepad app doesn't have similar then toward the end of that tutorial there is a registry edit to replace the Notepad default you can try.
