Windows 10: To high volume when connecting bluetooth headset

Every time I connect my Sony MDR-1000X bluetooth headset to my laptop running Windows 10 (latest offical update, not insider version), the sound volume is set to maximum without me making it do so. This also was the case with another Windows 10 laptop I got rid of recently. This sudden change of volume upon establishing bluetooth connection to the headset was not present earlier. This makes me believe that the problem was introduced with some update, but I do not know in which update/build.


When I change volume using the headset's built in controls, the volume is also changed on screen in Windows. The same applies for the headset volume when changing the volume on screen in Windows. Earlier, I was able to control the headset volume and the volume in Windows separately without them interfering with eachother. If the volume in Windows was set to, for example, 30 upon disconnecting the headset, it would also be 30 the next time I would connect the headset. Now, it jumps to 100 every time it is connected, which is especially annoying when playing music. After lowering the volume in Windows, or with the headset - since they control the same volume - it will often go right back to 100 upon initiating any kind of media playback, which really makes for an unpleasant experience. First then am I able to truely control the volume without it going back to 100.


This "synchronised volume control" (and problem) appeared on my Android phone too, some time ago, but I was able to deactivate it. Is there a similar option in Windows or any tweak I could apply? I would really like to just control the Windows volume and headset volume seperately and have them independent from each other, like I was able to do earlier.

Bluetooth headphones connect but headset portion does not


I have the exact same problem with my Bluebuds X





I have tried to manually add a driver through windows driver update (you can choose a driver device from the list)
but i'm not sure which one is compatible and had no luck getting the headset portion to work... *Sad

• What is the make and model of your headset and Bluetooth dongle?
