Windows 10: To open new browser windows each time by just left clicking icon on taskbar

After using Windows XP over 10 years, I migrated to Windows 10 on a new computer recently. I wish to open a new browser window not tab each time by just left clicking its icon on taskbar, as default on XP, but not the mandatory right click + menu selection on Win 10. It used to work independent of the browser type, by creating a fresh window and an icon for it. The icon would disappear upon closing.Is there an option somewhere in settings to manage that behaviour I'm used to with the old system? How can I do?

Left click works in browser but not in taskbar or desktop

the touchpad and an external mouse - both have the same behavior
the left click does not work on anything in taskbar, or the Start option.

However the left click works just fine in Brave browser. (chrome based). For the most part, has some weirdness but basically works. But I cannot select anything from the taskbar, any pinned items.
Nor can I start anything with the left click from the desktop.

Also, sometimes the left click does not work at all. I have to reboot multiple times for it to work in a limited capacity.(i.e. the browser).

That suggests there is a software problem.

 

How do I move the taskbar icons back to the left?

Kindly follow these steps to return the icons on the left side of the Taskbar:

• Right click on the empty Taskbar and uncheck Lock all taskbars.
• Right click again on empty Taskbar and hover the mouse on Toolbar.
• Click New folder.

• Open Settings, and click on the Personalization
  icon.
• Click on Taskbar on the left side, and click on the
  Select which icons appear on the taskbar link under the Notification area section on the right.
• Turn on Always show all icons in the notification area at the top
