Hi! My system consumes way too much power at Idle. I have a power meter on the socket and it shows ~115-130W at idle. The system is pretty complex, so higher consumption is expected, but it's way to much for Idle.

The GPU Power at Idle ~17W (RTX3070, no fans, it's water cooled)CPU Power at Idle ~ 25-50W (Ryzen 5900X)

All Power saving features in the BIOS are on (C-State, DF-State, Active Frequency, etc)

I generated the energy report, and here is what I got. I checked the Power Plan settings, and USB is allowed to Enter Selective Suspend, despite the report says different. Also, something is up with a timer, and I can't figure how to calibrate/fix the Platform Timer Resolution.

Any help will be highly appreciated!

    High Idle power consumption

    Hi,

A laptop in idle still drains the battery. It can be one of the lists below are the reasons why your discharging faster.

    • The power plan is on High-Performance. It consumes more energy because it maximizes the computer's usage. Toggle it as Balanced by going to Control Panel > System and Security > Power Options.
    • Too many background applications running. We can check this by going to Windows Settings > System > Battery saver > Battery usage by app. You can set adjust the settings of your battery there as well. Also, please follow the tips on the window on how you
      can manage your battery.
    • You use the second graphics card as your display to an external monitor.
    • Using sleep mode instead of hibernate mode. Hibernate mode is advisable to use when stepping away from the device for very long.

In addition to this, you can run the automatic troubleshooter to
find and fix problems with your computer's power settings to conserve power and extend battery life
    .

Feel free to post back if you need further help.

    High Idle power consumption

Yes, this is a newly purchased device. Previously i had faced startup issues and had to clean boot windows. But i had faced the draining issues from the beginning. And recently( after a month from purchase) i noticed this. No other updates are pending. I
have disabled my antivirus. Im using the default balanced power plan with 2 changes. 1) LPM in maximum power savings and 2) allow computer to sleep under media sharing. I did this to solve the startup and shutdown issue. At idle there is a system process that
is running in the background. But that uses around 5% of my cpu.

Also with CATIA running in the background and with mild usage ( viewing PDFs + browsing web) the battery backup is between 6.5 to 7 hrs.
