Windows 10: Too many PIN login attempts, two hour wait to login when Account Lockout Policy already set...

You may need to wait two hours, but if you can get to the Login screen, select Forgot Pin and go through reset options. You will need to be able to access to internet and oddly, MS Win 11 Pro let's you turn Wifi on/off while waiting.Still doesn't explain why Win locked out for "at least two hours"?Bug or hack?

Is there an equivalent to the 'Account lockout threshold' security policy setting for Windows 10 Home users?

My understanding is that Windows 10 Home users don't have access to the Account lockout threshold security policy setting (and by extension the Account lockout duration policy setting) because Local Security Policy isn't available in Windows 10 Home. Is
there an equivalent setting available that will allow me to set a threshold for login attempts and lockout duration on my laptop?

 

2hour Lockout Continuing with correct PIN

This issue just started happening: the two local users of our PC are getting locked out when the CORRECT pin is entered on the login screen. Security Policy is set to lockout after 0 attempts. Even so, Windows is forcing a 2hr wait before another login attempt is possible. Everything is up to date, correct PIN is being entered.

This seems like a recurrent issue for Windows 11 users, where is the patch/fix?

Is this a power issue?

 

How to limit PIN attempts in Windows 10

Yes , there are ways to do that.

First of all I would like you to tell you that GROUP POLICY EDITOR is only available on Windows 10 Pro and not on Windows 10 Home.
Your requirement can be fulfilled only by using the Group Policy Editor.

• Click on Run and type gpedit.msc.The Local Group Policy Editor window appears.
  
• On the left pane under Computer Configuration
  
• expand Windows Settings
  
• then expand Security Settings
  
• then expand Account Policies
  
• Under Account Policies select Account Lockout Policy.
  
• On the right pane double click on Account Lockout Threshold and specify the number of login attempts.
  
• After that you will be asked to confirm the suggested values of Account Lockout Duration and Reset Account Lockout counter.The suggested values cannot be changed and the default is 30 minutes.(You will have to bare with this as this is the Microsoft Default Security Policy Setting.)
  
• Next click on OK or Apply to apply the changes made.
  

(The disadvantage of this Security Policy is that after there has been n-login attempts the user account gets locked out. In spite of the user typing the correct PIN or PASSWORD the account is locked for 30 minutes and can't be accessed before 30 minutes timeout, where as the account is accessible after 30 minutes and there is no problem in this).
