Toshiba 2TB HDD can be seen with Crystaldisk, and by bios, not by w10

I have a 2tb toshiba hdd/internal that is the boot drive for a dell xps desktop. it stopped booting. Running a USB repair disk [v.1909 of win 10 on the usb], it shows up, i can list its volumes, etc. but with windows booted on 2 different desktops, not visible in "disk management", not visible in Minitool Partition Wizard [at all, like there's nothing attached], but is easily visible with Crystaldiskinfo, which shows it in pristine excellent health!

how can this be? When running the windows usb media, hitting 'repair'/command line and listing the volumes etc, nothing seems out of order. i can enter every directory, browse the files, whatever i want to do except repair the boot sector. but get a system running windows and add it as a drive 1/2/3 whatever, no go. invisible.

??l... now i'm just plain curious

    :)

After upgrading to Windows 10 - 2nd and 3rd HDDs cannot be seen??????

    Hi,

What is the make and model of your computer?

I suggest you to check in BIOS setting whether both the HDD are listed there. You may get in touch with your computer manufacturer or refer to the user manual on how to enter BIOS settings.

If it is listed in BIOS, you may check whether you are able to see both the HDD in Disk Management. Follow the steps to check:

    Press Windows Key + X.

    Click on Disk Management.

Please reply us with the required information to assist you further.

    USB HDD: IN BIOS

Hi AJAY, in modern BIOS (UEFI) it is normal to have USB devices listed, such as USB HDD without drive being plugged in.

In older Legacy BIOS, a drive would have to be plugged in for it to be listed in BIOS, but not no londer . . .

Portable HDD intermittently not recognised by W10

I am having a lot of trouble with a Toshiba 2TB portable HDD on Windows 10. Sometimes it is recognised by Explorer, sometimes it isn't, and I can't discern a pattern. The drive works in every other device I have, and when it doesn't work, it is not seen using any of the USB ports. It is not a case of a duplicate drive letter; when it fails to be seen, it isn't seen in Device Manager or Disk Management either. There is always power to the drive, as even when it fails to be seen, it lights up blue for USB3.

One pattern I do notice is that, when the drive fails to be seen in Windows 10, the subsequent restart or shutdown can take up to 10 minutes. Even after that, there is no guarantee that the drive will be seen.

I guess this suggests a driver failure of some kind, but I thought I would ask.

    Thanks!
