Windows 10: Touchpad Becomes Mostly Unresponsive Often

Hello,Very often on my computer the touchpad becomes mostly unresponsive. What happens is that suddenly the entire middle part of the touchpad won't let you click or drag anywhere, only the very bottom left and right parts will let you right/left click. A workaround is to go into the device manager and update the touchpad driver, but this is only a temporary fix and usually only lasts for a few minutes. I have had the touchpad replaced with no success which leads me to believe this is a problem with the computer and sensing the driver.Computer Informationevice: Dell Inspiron 7415 14" 2-in-1P

Windows 10 Update Renders Touchpad Unresponsive

I suggest you to follow these methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Troubleshoot.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your touchpad. Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.

If the issue still persists try next method.

Method 2.

Try updating the Touchpad drivers from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the Touchpad drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the hardware and devices.

c. Right-click on the Touchpad drivers and click on Update driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop


Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:

• start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
• windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
• various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
• device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.

Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.

TouchPad problem

so i assume next steps are to have that program open that you suggested whilst using the laptop and then when the touchpad gets disabled to check if the keys have changed?
