  1. Touchpad disabled and not showing in Device Manager even in hidden devices

    G'day everyone,

Since my Windows Update was malfunctioning and my laptop seemed to be corrupted, I decided to reinstall Windows 10.

Since then, my touchpad does not work. I have tried pretty much everything:

    - The Fn activation key does not change anything

    - Touchpad does not show in the mouse settings there is absolutely no mouse recognised in the menu

    - Touchpad does not show in Device Manager including hidden devices

    - I have tried to access the BIOS and see if anything was disfunctional

    - I fully rebooted my laptop hard reset to clean and potentially install some missing drivers.

Nothing worked. It is like reinstalling Windows 10 created a malfunctioning of that part of my PC, which seems to have disappeared from the available devices.

I have looked up for drivers to install manually online but I do not find any which, once installed, shows in Device Manager.

My laptop is a Lenovo S340-15IWL Ideapad.

    Thanks for your help.

    :)

  2. Device Manager Un-Hiding Hidden Devices

When you connect a plug and play device, Windows Plug and Play manager detects it, finds and installs the driver. Device Manager lists the device with a solid icon.

The driver is only removed when you uninstall the device, not simply by disconnecting the device. When the device is disconnected, its driver is still installed. By default, Device Manager only displays connected devices. When you show hidden devices, note the Bluetooth icon you see is semi-transparent (not opaque). That indicates a "non-present" device. Sometimes also called a "ghost" device. The driver is still installed but the device is not currently detected (i.e. not connected).

    Device can be disconnected when
    • Device unplugged (e.g. removing a USB device)
    • Turning a device OFF
    • Disabling the device in BIOS (then windows won't detect it) or
    • Device failure

    So
    • Check BIOS as suggested
    • Check board connections
    • Can b/t be turned off by a switch? or keyboard combination?
Also possible the b/t h/w failed

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop

    Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:
    • start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
    • windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
    • various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
    • device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.
Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.
    Thanks

Imaging Devices missing in Device Manager and Webcam doesn't working

    Hi,

Since you mentioned that the said driver is missing in Device Manager, what we suggest is for you to check in the Hidden Devices section on Device Manager. Kindly follow the steps below:

    • On the desktop, press Windows key + X and select
      Device Manager.
    • Click on View and select
      Show Hidden Devices.
    • Check for the webcam under Imaging Devices.
    • If the webcam is listed, then right-click on it and select
      Update Driver Software
    • Select Browse My Computer for Driver Software and follow the prompted steps.
Please post back with the result for further assistance
