Windows 10: Touchpad gestures not working after updates in Windows 10

I use a Dell Latitude 3490 laptop. One day suddenly my touchpad gestures stopped working. Pointing was working, only the multi-finger gestures didn't. I looked up in device manager and found that one I2C HID Device was not working (it had a yellow exclamation mark on it). I tried disabling and enabling it, and it worked. This happened a few more times, after which disabling-enabling, or uninstalling-reinstalling did not work. I tried microsoft forum, and saw the same issue reported by many people. But none of the proposed solutions worked. Therefore I had to purchase a mouse!





At this point, I changed my storage from HDD to SSD and I had to reinstall Windows 10 as part of it. After that, the touchpad gentures started working fine. Then I remembered that the problems had started after a Windows update. So I set my connection as 'metered' to avoid further issues. But seemingly, Windows update is an inescapable evil; and it never stops completely. After some random update, the gestures stopped again. I'm not good enough to spot which particular update had done this. Updates came now and then again, and then one day the touchpad stopped working altogether. This time I could fix the pointing function by uninstalling an update file. But my gestures are just a past memory. I travel a lot and now I'm forced to carry a mouse wherever I go.


It's frustrating to see that Windows 10 is irritating its own customers by sending unwarranted updates that have damaging consequences. Can someone help me fix this?

Touchpad gestures NOT working

Hi Abuzar,

Your touchpad drivers might be outdated or corrupted. I would suggest that you update the touchpad driver. Follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key and X together and select
  Device Manager.
• Locate the touchpad driver.
• Right-click on the touchpad driver icon and click Update Driver software.
• Click on Search automatically for Updated driver software option.

If the driver for Windows 10 is not available, download and reinstall the latest touchpad drivers from the manufacturer website.

touchpad gestures two finger scroll not working Asus 501

Hi there,

1. Go to N501VW | ASUS Global Downloads
2. Download the latest ATK - ATKPackage driver
3. Download the latest TouchPad - ASUS Smart Gesture (Touchpad Driver)
4. Uninstall both the Touchpad driver and the Asus ATK package driver.
5. Reboot
6. First install ATKPackage driver (IMPORTANT to do this FIRST)
7. Reboot
8. Then install the TouchPad driver (may need to reboot)
9. Test if all is working as it should

I had this same issue with my Asus UX305 when I upgraded to Windows version 1803 and doing the above steps solved the issue for me.

 

Disabling touchpad gestures in Windows 10

Precision touchpad is one of the improvements recently brought to Windows 10 to support touch gestures. Is you device running on Windows Creators Update? If yes, follow the steps below to disable touchpad:

• Go to Settings.
• Select Ease of Access.
• Click Touchpad.
• Under Touchpad, toggle the switch on or off.
• You can also uncheck the box beside Leave touchpad on the when a mouse is connectedoption to disable it when you use a traditional mouse.
  

Once done with the steps above, check if the issue will persist.
