After the latest flurry late June 2021 of Windows 10 Updates, my formerly disabled Synaptics Touchpad on my HP Laptop is not only Not Disabled, but the selector "Leave Touchpad on when a Mouse is Connected" usually found in SettingsTouchpad: LOST OPTION to Disable the Touchpad when a Mouse is Connected All Drivers Up to... :Devices:Touchpad had disappeared. Not only is it working, but seems hyper-sensitive even though it's set at low sensitivity! I tried to manually disable it through Control Panel but the disable option was grayed out. I really do not want to remove it, because id my mouse battery dies or I somehow forget it or lose it, I'm screwed.I tried updating the drivers and

    mouse not disabling touchpad

    Hello Don-2up,

I'm John an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I understand you want to disable touchpad when mouse is connected.

    Install the latest drivers

Sometimes the option to disable touchpad when the mouse is connected isn’t available unless you have the latest drivers. To fix this problem, simply visit your laptop manufacturer’s website and download the latest drivers’ touchpad drivers for your laptop. After downloading the latest drivers, uninstall your current driver by following these steps:

Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager from the list.

When Device Manager opens, locate your Touchpad driver, right-click it and choose Uninstall.

If available, select Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.

After the driver is removed, restart your PC.

When your PC restarts, install the latest touchpad driver and check if that fixes the problem.

Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.

Go to Devices and navigate to Mouse & touchpad tab.

You should see Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected option. Set this option to Off.

Close the Settings app and check if the problem is resolved.

Press Windows Key + X to open the Win + X menu and select Control Panel from the list.

When Control Panel opens, go to Hardware and Sound section and select Mouse.

When the Mouse settings window opens, you should see the ELAN or Device Settings tab. Switch to it.

Locate Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached option and enable it.

Click Apply and OK to save changes.

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop

    Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:
    • start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
    • windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
    • various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
    • device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.
Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.
    Thanks
