  1. Touchpad settings on start up?

I have an HP ENVY notebook on Windows 10. I have a cordless mouse. Recently, every time I switch it on, the touchpad and the cordless mouse both work at the same time. The touchpad should not work when the cordless mouse is plugged into the USB socket. I have to go into settings, touchpad, and additional settings. This opens up a screen ‘Mouse Properties’, ‘Click Pad Settings’. In this screen, there is an option to ‘Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached’. When I open this screen, this option is already ticked and the touchpad does not work. I have to do

I want to disable touchpad on Dell laptop

    Hello everyone,
My laptop's touchpad works and I don't want it to, because I prefer a mouse. It's a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series on windows 10 OS.

What I have tried that hasn't worked:
    • start<settings<devices<mouse & touchpad<additional mouse options. This opens a window called Mouse Options which has 5 tabs up top, none of which involve the touchpad. The Hardware tab shows 2 devices: the mouse itself, and the USB. No touchpad there.
    • windows key+x<mobility center. No touchpad to be found.
    • various function keys. No options for touchpad on/off.
    • device manager<mice and other pointing devices. Again, only the mouse and usb show up. It appears the touchpad is working without a driver, which is a little spooky.
Any other suggestions? I could try downloading a third party driver, but that seems like a step in the wrong direction.
    Thanks

  3. Touchpad not scrolling after setting ScrollControl_Mode to 1

    Hi Silver Phung,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community

The issue you're facing with your laptop's touchpad not scrolling after setting ScrollControl_Mode to 1 seems to be a complex one, but I can suggest a few steps that might help in resolving it. Let's break it down:

    Immediate Steps to Try

    1. Revert the Setting Change:
      • Since the problem started after changing the ScrollControl_Mode to 1, the first step would be to revert it back to its original setting (probably 0). You mentioned trying this without success, but ensure that the change is correctly applied and saved.
    2. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers:
      • You’ve already checked for driver updates, but it might be helpful to completely uninstall and then reinstall the touchpad driver. Sometimes, simply updating doesn't fix issues that a fresh install might resolve.
      • Go to Device Manager, find the touchpad (possibly under "Mice and other pointing devices"), right-click, and select "Uninstall device." Then, restart your laptop and Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
    3. Check for Windows Updates:
      • Occasionally, such issues are resolved through Windows updates. Ensure your system is fully updated.
    Dealing with ELAN Touchpad Issues

    • ELAN Tab Missing:
      • If the ELAN tab in your mouse settings is not showing up, it suggests a deeper issue with the touchpad driver or configuration.
      • Try downloading the touchpad driver specifically for your model from the Lenovo support website. Ensure it matches your exact laptop model and Windows 11 version.
    • ETD Properties App:
      • The error message from the ETD Properties app indicates a disconnect or incompatibility with the ELAN driver. This again points towards a need for a driver reinstallation or update.
      • Make sure you’re downloading the right version of the app compatible with your Windows 11 version.
Thank you for your patience and understanding! If you have any questions, feel free to leave us a message.

    Sincerely

    Touchpad settings on start up?

    Touchpad

    Hi Denise,

To address your concern, we suggest that you check if the touchpad is enabled in Mouse Properties.

Please follow these steps below to check the status of the touchpad.

    • Click Start and choose Settings.
    • Click on Devices. Choose Mouse & touchpad. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click
      Additional mouse options.
    • The Mouse Properties window will open. Click the tab furthest to the right (ELAN
      or Device Settings).
    • Under Devices, check if your touchpad is disabled. If it is disabled, click the touchpad to select it and then click
      Enable.

Let us know how it goes.
