Windows 10: touchpad stops letting me use gestures sometimes

Hi! I'm running Windows 10 on a HP Pavilion x360, and I have a problem with my touchpad. Sometimes when I'm using my laptop gestures just... stop working? So if I try to scroll, it's just like I'm moving my mouse. I can click and drag okay, but it only recognises one of my fingers. It's really frustrating and I'm not sure what triggers it. The only way I know of to fix it is just restarting my machine, but it is annoying to do so if I'm in the middle of working and don't really have time for that.

While I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the device I'm very scared of breaking something even more, I've tried updating the drivers nothing, and have looked in control panel, device manager and settings to see if I can just disable and enable gestures again. Unfortunately, I don't actually have any touchpad settings, only this:






I'm mostly just wondering if there's either a way to fix this permanently which is ideal! or an easier and quicker way to fix this without restarting my machine. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Disabling touchpad gestures in Windows 10

Precision touchpad is one of the improvements recently brought to Windows 10 to support touch gestures. Is you device running on Windows Creators Update? If yes, follow the steps below to disable touchpad:

• Go to Settings.
• Select Ease of Access.
• Click Touchpad.
• Under Touchpad, toggle the switch on or off.
• You can also uncheck the box beside Leave touchpad on the when a mouse is connectedoption to disable it when you use a traditional mouse.
  

Once done with the steps above, check if the issue will persist.

I suggest you install the touchpad driver from your PC manufacturer.

Hi there,

1. Go to N501VW | ASUS Global Downloads
2. Download the latest ATK - ATKPackage driver
3. Download the latest TouchPad - ASUS Smart Gesture (Touchpad Driver)
4. Uninstall both the Touchpad driver and the Asus ATK package driver.
5. Reboot
6. First install ATKPackage driver (IMPORTANT to do this FIRST)
7. Reboot
8. Then install the TouchPad driver (may need to reboot)
9. Test if all is working as it should

I had this same issue with my Asus UX305 when I upgraded to Windows version 1803 and doing the above steps solved the issue for me.
