  1. Traffic routing on wired and wireless connections

I have satellite internet service with limited data. I use wired Ethernet as the always-on connection, but for higher data or bandwidth applications, i.e. large downloads or video streaming, I connect to a cellular hotspot. Is there a way to configure my adapters or other parameters, or hardware/wiring so that all internet traffic is routed through the cellular hotspot when connected? Right now, I disable my wired adapter to be sure I'm not using satellite data, but it's a hassle, and I lose my connection to my NAS, printers, etc.

Ideally, when I connect to the hotspot, I'd like all internet traffic to go through the wireless connection, and all local network traffic to stay on the wired connection. I'm not talking about bridging the networks. I've read about setting the Interface Metric to prioritize the wireless network when connected. How does that affect traffic routing? If I set the wireless adapter to a higher priority, will I lose my connection to my LAN? Is there a way to accomplish what I want?

    :)

  2. Automatic disconnect wireless connection upon a wired connection

    Hi,

I have a problem with automatic disconnecting wireless connection upon a wired connection. This is my situation and solutions I took but none of them worked:

I start Lenovo laptop and when it boots, it connects to my home wireless network (I want this to happen; following settings are sets on that network: connect automatically when this network is in range, connect to a more preferred network if available).
What I also want is that when, in specific situations, I plug LAN cable into it, that wireless connection would be automatically disconnected and automatically connected when I unplug it.

Following solutions were taken, but they didn't produce a wanted result:

    • setting disable upon wired connect on enable on a wireless adapter
    • setting wired adapter on the highest priority
    • setting wired autoconfig service on automatic startup type
    • route print shows wired metric 10 and wireless metric 11
The result that was produced: when I connect LAN cable it shows connections: first wired, second wireless, but both of them connected (both interfaces got IP address) and on windows tray it is still shown wireless connection icon not wired.

    Drive+ Traffic Routing

    Hi,

I've been using Android phones with Google Maps for several years and recently switched to WP8.1 with Here Drive+ for navigation. I'm in the USA, New York City metro area, and find the route selection based on traffic not good. From what I see on the map,
the actual traffic (yellow/red lines) does seem to be accurate as far as I can tell, but the routing seems to ignore it. I find I can't rely on it to give me the best route to get to my destination based on current traffic conditions. I also find the
ETA to be incorrect by 15-30 minutes where Google Maps was much closer to actual time.

As an example, yesterday, I had two route choices, one was more miles with no traffic and a second was less miles with heavy traffic. There are smart signs on the road showing the drive time to the George Washington Bridge from a point. One route was a 15
minute drive the other was a 54 minute drive. Radio news traffic confirmed what the signs said.

I could see on Drive+ that the green, yellow, red lines seemed to match the conditions on the road sign and where I could see traffic flow. Drive+ selected the heavy traffic route, I seleted the light traffic route. Drive+ kept trying to re-route me on the
heavy traffic road via u-turns and connecting roads. It showed my time to my destination as 4:11PM. As I continued on my route, it finally showed me on this route and changed the ETA to 3:50PM. It should have routed me using a shorter drive time from the start.

The app needs to better handle traffic conditions for route selection as this seems to be typical.

Traffic routing on wired and wireless connections

Connecting a wired interface breaks internet access via wireless in Windows 10

    [EDIT]

After a clean install on my desktop the issue was resolved. I now have all the applications I previously had and all traffic is still routed correctly, so I don't think any app was interfering with the connection.

All in all, the issue was resolved by reinstalling the OS, but I couldn't pinpoint what caused the problem in the first place.

    [\EDIT]

On my desktop running Windows 10, I have two network interfaces; a wireless USB adapter and wired onboard ethernet.

Through the wireless I connect to my ISP's router with a DHCP that serves the 192.168.1.1/24 subnet. The wired interface connects to a router that routes inside a private network utilising the 10.0.0.0 subnet and has a DHCP that serves the 10.x.x.1/24 subnet (due to uniquely identifiable addressing in the private network the actual IPs are deducted).

When only connected to the wireless interface, I have access to the internet. A few seconds after I connect to the wired interface (still being connected to the wire) I lose connection to the Internet.

I have two persistent routes on the routing table. First one being:

    and the second one being:
