Windows 10: Transfer a Windows 10 product key from one computer to another... but there's another...

I want to transfer a Windows 10 license from one computer to another. But... it's more complicated than that.First off, any licenses involved in this complicated story are non-OEM, they're retail. We build our own computers.My husband built a new computer and transferred his Windows license from his old computer to his new one.My kids want to use the old computer, but every time we try to start it up it "takes" the old license back from my husband's new computer I can go into command prompt and see it. We don't want it to use that license any more, that's my husband's account and it's on his

Transfer of product key

Whoever told you that you need to "deactivate" is wrong. Go here for actual steps on transfering the product key over:

Simply put, you just need to transfer the license over. you do not need to deactivate first.

For more info, i suggest calling MS support about activation issues.

Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.

If you upgraded from a retail box copy Windows 7, it has retail transfer rights.
