Windows 10: Transfer laptop ownership to new Microsoft Account while keeping all data

Hi,


I'd like to transfer my old laptop to a family member.


I'd like to keep all of the files and data attached to the my profile, just putting these under my family member's account/name.


Do I have to manually do this ie backup GB's of photos and files or is there a way to do this in Windows?

Multiple questions about installing - transfer accounts etc.

According to you, the accounts were Windows built-in admin, a local admin and standard user. None of them needs to be moved.

The built-in admin account, as the name says, will be there when you boot the laptop first time. It is disabled by default, you just need to enable it. For two other accounts, simply create same accounts on laptop.

Attach the HDD to laptop using an external USB enclosure, copy contents of data folders to respective folders on laptop.

You mentioned that the desktop accounts were / are local accounts, not Microsoft accounts. See the options to get Pro here:

If you can still access Windows on desktop, boot it up, make it a Microsoft account and link license to that MS account. Tutorials:

Change Account Ownership but keep all apps

Hi I built a new computer for my daughter but I linked Windows 10 to her email. I need to transfer ownership to mine so I can set hers up under parental controls. I already spent hours loading apps and need to keep them. can you explain the steps to transfer
ownership to my account so I can then set her up as a child account?

Transferring Ownership of Desktop to a Family Member

Thanks for providing the details we requested. Since you're using a Microsoft account as the primary sign-in on the laptop that you will transfer ownership to, we suggest that you create a separate Microsoft account for the new owner if they don't have one
yet. Also, do take note that if the laptop was set up with your Microsoft account the digital license for the Windows 10 OS is tied to your account.

Since the disc and product key of the Microsoft Office 2010 suite is still available, what you can do is to reinstall the software and have her fill in the details during the setup process. This also applies if you would like to transfer the ownership of
the Microsoft Office 2013 suite that you currently are not using.
