  1. Transfer license to a new HD, same motherboard.

    Hello,

I have a laptop that came with a pre-installed windows version, I already reinstalled for many reason, but I always kept the same HD, so no problem. However, today I need to change my HD, so I want to know if I can transfer my license. I have ready some articles saying that I can, some questions in this community saying that I cannot. So, I am a bit confusing, can I transfer it? I think I can, since I am just change my HD, not my motherboard.

    Thank you.

    :)

  2. Hard Drive Dying - Transfer license to new HD (In same pc)?

I have a Desktop pc who's HD is dying. The machine was originally purchased with Win8 installed, and I upgraded to Win10 during the period free upgrades were available.

When I replace the HD, do I need to purchase a new copy of Win10, or is there a means of transferring the license for the existing install to the new HD?

If the latter, would someone be kind enough to point me towards some instructions for doing the new install given I have no media available.

    Thanks!

  3. Reactivating Windows 10 with new motherboard

Plugging it into the new motherboard should be enough, but create a recovery drive in case you need to perform a startup repair:

The fact that you don't have a license key concerns me. If Windows 10 came preinstalled on your computer, you can't transfer it to a new computer or motherboard. You will need to purchase an entirely new license.

  4. Transfer license to a new HD, same motherboard.

transfer windows 10 to new pc?

It depends on how Windows 10 was originally configured on your computer.

If its a full retail store bought license online or offline, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a retail store bought Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its the free upgrade from a OEM preinstalled Windows 7 or Windows 8 license, it is NOT transferable to a new computer or motherboard.

If its a retail license, learn how to reactivate:
