    I have just upgraded to a new computer and am no longer able to download files from my Samsung 9 phone via USB. Windows sees the phone and files it just won't transfer them. (Spinning wheel of death) I don't want to transfer the files (photos) through the photos app because I want to pick and choose which files and I want to put them directly into a backup drive. I have turned off most of the Cortana access so not sure if that is the problem.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

    Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

    Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Cable to transfer files

    OMG. I have never met anyone who actually bought one of those file transfer things.



    Firewire will do the same as USB, but faster, so will a cheap crossover cable. I can wlak you through the steps of moving data so you will not miss a beat.




    Anything more than $10 to buy a cable is too much.
