Windows 10: Transferring Data to an External SSD without an OS

Do i need to install an OS on a new SSD that i want to use as an external Storage Drive or i can just transfer my data without having to go through the hustle of installing the ISO image to the external SSD

Transfering saved data from Windows 10 laptop to Macbook Pro 16 through External SSD

I have saved data from Windows 10 laptop to External SSD. I want to transfer the same saved data from External SSD to my new MacBook Pro 16, Can I transfer the data from External SSD to Mac ? Or I need to format the SSD first. So that I can easily transfer
the data. I heard that while transferring the data from Windows to Mac using External SSD, We have to format the SSD so that it will able to transfer the data to mac or vice a versa. Is it true? plz Explain.

 

OS on new SSD, keep existing data on HDD and use as external drive

I want to use a new SSD to run my OS on my PC. I have a lot of data on my HDD and dont want it on the SSD but do want to keep it.

I have read that you shouldn't use an external drive that has Windows installed so how would i go about doing what I need?

I.e. get Windows onto the SSD, replace HDD with SSD, use HDD as external drive, and keep data from HDD on HDD.
