Windows 10: Transferring hardware - windows licence

Hello,I've recently set up a PC for a colleague where the windows licence is a digital licence for Windows that came with the PC presumably embedded onto the PC The box itself has developed a fault which means it keeps losing connection to wifi via a USB dongle - I've set up quite a few in a similar way and have swapped the dongle so it seems there may be a hardware fault.I happen to have a few spare PC boxes, all of a similar spec, so want to just swap over the memory and hard drive rather than reinstalling from scratch and for them to reinstall their software and copy it over. Transfer Windows 10 digital licence to another computer

Hi,

I have retail Windows 10 Pro digital licence which is linked to my microsoft account. I want to transfer that licence to new laptop. What are the steps? Do I need to deactivate licence (and how) at first laptop and then install windows to other laptop and link
somehow that licence to that laptop?

Transfer Windows 10 Licence from Old/Dead Computer to New Computer

Depends on the licence you have. How did you get your Windows 10 licence, was it via the free upgrade and was the previous system installed by the manufacturer = OEM.

OEM licences cannot be transferred, generally but recent posts suggest MS is allowing some transfers.

Retail boxed licence can be transferred to a new device.

New motherboard = new device.

 

How to transfer my OEM windows licence to new hardware?

Hi Blago1985, sorry, OEM licences are not transferable to a new PC, that licence is tied to the original PC on which it was installed. It is only retail licences that can be transferred to another PC . . .
