Windows 10: transferring M.2 SSD in windows ten system to new windows 11 system

Hi there,My motherboard bricked recently but it is not electrical failed bios update so I need to build a new pc. My current system is windows ten but my new system will be windows 11. I have purchased a new m.2 sad that I will use as a boot drive but considering my old SSD holds 500 gigs and many of my files, I would like to transfer the storage and files over to my new machine. Windows 10 is currently installed on this SSD and I am not sure if that will cause issues where I would lose my data or be unable to merge the older SSD with the new OS. I would love any advice!

SATA SSD and M.2 SSD

i was with a ssd sata and now i have ssd m.2, i formatted and put windows 11 in m.2, but i did not remove the ssd sata, i can only boot windows with the ssd sata connected, if i remove it windows does not boot to m.2



obs: windows was installed on m.2 but the ssd sata was still connected, but windows was 100% installed on m.2, is there any way I can set m.2 as primary? (when i removed the ssd sata it did not recognize windows)

M.2 SSD on old X58 system with M.2 PCI adaptor. Can it work?

Congrats on joyning x58 with an m.2 ssd and yeah its awesome with m.2 ssd on x58. it really makes the old system feels fast and responsive. Infact so awesome that i got a second samsung 950 pro for games.

Oh and its nice to see that there are other m.2 ssd besides samsung 950 PRO that can work on X58. Enjoy your speed freak of a x58 system*Peace eace:. I sure do.

A little tip. Make sure windows 7 has deaktivated defrag on your ssd. It makes more damage to the ssd than benefits. Ssd use a funktion called trim. Just if you are new to ssd.

 

I cloned system OS to external SSD in m.2 tray - no signature collision

I cloned using diskgenius my system OS using winPE to an external SSD in a M.2 USB tray.

But when I inserted the new drive in the usb slot, it just booted up with letter D: (system is C and looks like identical clone. However I did not get a signature collision and the drive was not offline.

Does it mean the clone was not identical? Or windows automatically changed the signature of the cloned OS drive?

I can confirm that the new cloned SSD has a different identifier.

Is it default behaviour to set a new ID for cloned drive in win 11?

Will it still boot?
