    I have an old canon 40 Elura. The software is not compatible with window 10 and canon does not have any. How can i transfer my old movies to my computer without the software?

    miniDV video transfer to PC

    I have a lot of old miniDV tapes I want to store as digital files on my PC.
    How should I best connect my equally old Sony Handycam (Model DCR-HC42) to my Surface Pro 6?
    I shall be using 4-pin to 6-pin iEEE 1394 cable in the
    iLink output jack on the camcorder.

    How do I get the signal from the 6-pin end of that cable into my Surface?

    I also have another laptop as an option to use in this video transfer project.
    It is a Dell XPS 15 9570, and has more RAM and more SSD storage than the Surface.

    Video Transfer

    I'm trying to transfer old family videos from miniDV to my computer for touching up and burning to dvd. It seems my camera has been deemed "extinct" being sony no longer has a driver to support it. Does anyone know of an effective and hopefully inexpensive
    way of transferring videos to windows 10?

    I think Windows Movie Maker (which came with XP) has you covered. It's pretty much self explanatory. To do a basic import, plug camera in, turn on camcorder, and set it to playback mode. In the left column of movie maker, you can go through everything step by step, just remember to plug your camcorder in BEFORE trying to import anything (captain obvious to the resuce). Or you could just mail the tapes to me and I'd do everything for you *Wink transferring video from minidv tape ;).
