  1. Transferring Win 10 Retail License Obtained Through Free Upgrade from Win 7

I had earlier successfully upgraded to Win 10 Home [Retail] from Win 7 Home [Retail]. The computer had some issues with the mainboard/processor and had to be replaced. I want to move this license to a replacement PC. How can I go about this as I dont have the upgraded key for Win 10 but only the Win 7 key that came with the original box? Thanks.

    :)

Win 10 Pro retail license transfer product key

Even when the purchase was for upgrade from Win XP? The box has a block that says "Upgrade designed for Windows Vista". I never had Windows Vista - I went straight from XP to Win 7 Pro. I seem to recall working with a MS rep at some point to make sure the license was recognized as a valid retail license, which (I think) is why I have never had a problem with getting Windows updates. The license seems to have been recognized for years as a valid retail license on both the PCs that preceded this LG.

Since I didn't buy the license and media from the MS store, can you suggest how I might resolve my question about the validity of this product key as being for a transferable retail license? And can you tell me why Settings>System>About reports Windows 10 Pro on the LG as still being installed on the HP system from which I transferred it?

    Thanks

    Windows 10 upgrade license

The interesting question is that: the upgrade takes place before 29 of July. If I upgrade the PC (change the MB), and I transfer the Win 8.1 license to this new PC (cause 8.1 is retail FPP), will I be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free? Or a upgrade license must be bought?

Transferring a Win 10 to a new PC, with a free upgrade license

If you upgrade a transferable retail channel license, Windows 10 will inherit the retail channel transferability. If you upgrade an OEM license, it will be tied to the OEM machine the license originally came with. You get what you paid for.

From an admin command prompt the system license manager script (*Start+x, A, yes, type slmgr -dlv, enter) will tell you your license channel. Microsoft has said that the license type will be preserved on upgrade.

If you were lucky enough to upgrade your Win7 OEM PC to a Win 8 Pro license cheaply, you have a retail license, which is yours with a Win10 upgrade, a full retail license.

Solved Win 8 Pro u/g allowed transferability, will Win 10 u/g change this? - Windows 10 Forums
