Windows 10: Transferring windows 10 pro from my old computer to my new one

Hey everyone,

I've recently bought a new surface pro 7 and I have windows 10 pro on my old laptop which I'm looking to transfer to my new laptop. However when I called Microsoft the guy I was speaking to was adamant that the activation code was incorrect however that is the only one I've ever had and have kept safe written down since I upgraded my last laptop.


I really don't want to have to have to call them again as he was quite unpleasant so I'm wondering if anyone here can tell me if:

1. there's another way to transfer my windows 10 pro to my new laptop

2. is it possible that I could have gotten windows 10 pro another way as I'm only aware of activating via product key

New computer - transfer old key

The Windows 10 Pro upgrade would be tied to the old computer and is not transferable. I believe it will be necessary to purchase Windows 10 Pro.

Try the following steps:

To upgrade, select the Start button, then select Settings >
Update & security > Activation.

• If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Home is currently activated on your device, select
  Go to Store and you'll be prompted to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free.
• If you have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, but Windows 10 Home isn't activated on your device, select
  Troubleshoot, and then follow the steps to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
• If you don't have a digital license for Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Pro is available for purchase from the Store.

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

 

Move windows 10 from old computer to new.

Just install Windows 10 Pro on the new computer and use your Windows 7 Ultimate key to reactivate.

Windows 10 Pro upgrade. Can I transfer it to my new computer?
