Windows 10: Tray Icon settings in Windows 11 drive me bananas - Google Drive keeps getting hidden

Windows 11 redesigned the tray icon settings functionality. In Windows 10 and prior, I could say "always show tray icons" and that settled the deal. In Windows 11, it doesn't work. Instead, I have to manually go into "Personalization Taskbar Other system tray icons" and then turn things on. It's inconvenient, because every time I install a new program with a tray icon, I get the heinous overflow arrow and I need to go into settings and add that program to emulate the legacy behavior. What's worse, however, is that the new functionality is glitchy. Currently, the main offender is Google D

USB Drives plugged in but No Safely Remove Icon in Tray, and

....no drives listed in Hardware List.

When I plug USB drives in, the Safely Remove Hardware icon does not appear in in system tray (its not hidden either)

First, I went to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Select which Icons Appear on the Taskbar...





.. and found it was already on

...making a shortcut from "rundll32 shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll", but when I run the shortcut, there are no devices listed...





(in this screenshot, you can see two USB drives in the Explorer window in the BG but nothing listed in the panel. )

NOTE: They are listed in Disk Management and in the Device Manager under Disk Drives, and they function just fine..
I think the Safely Remove Hardware icon is not appearing because despite being detected and showing in Explorer, Device Manager and Disk Management, its not being listed in this panel for some reason.


NOTE2: I recently installed a new motherboard.

ASUS B150M-A
CPU Intel Core i5 - 6500 (3.2 GHz)
Mem 4096 MB (DDR4 - 2133)

I am 100% sure it was working before that, but I cannot say for sure if it was still working after that.
A friend suggested that it might be a setting in BIOS, but I have looked through it and nothing stands out.

Any suggestions would be welcome.


ETA: this is not the system listed in my System Specs page. That is another computer which I still have.

 

One Drive Icon Missing From System Tray


I have been having some weird problem with One Drive and have received several suggestions to look at the settings of One Drive by right clicking on the System Tray One Drive icon. That icon is not in the System Tray. How do I find it?

Google Drive Icon Constantly Disappears in Windows 10

It is possible that an icon may disappeared is because, the Show Desktop Icons is unchecked. For us to better isolate your concern, we'd like to gather more information:

• Does this happen also to another application or in Google Drive only?
• Have you made any recent changes before this issue occur?
• Did you get any error messages?

In the meantime, we recommend that you modify option for icons by following these steps:

• Right-click the Desktop.
• Select View.
• Checked Show Desktop Icon.
