I have the same issue, but with Cellular since I have purposely disabled WiFi, which has been my practice for many years for many reasons .... with NO issues till 1909 >

how to control taskbar Internet icon 1909?

As above, in Network & Internet, Windows 1909 knows it is CONNECTED online -- because it IS! However, like above, after 1- 3 days the taskbar icon shows "Not Connected" (when it is connected and the rest of Windows 1909 knows it and shows it ("Connected").

Repeating; the taskbar ICON is wrong.

How to fix this or force the icon?

From a Google search it seems this is not an entirely new issue and that no one seems to have a real clue what is causing it. As I pointed out in my question Internet icon often not showing on taskbar with Mobile Partner , the only sure-fire way to to "temporarily" fix it (and then only for 1 - 3 days max) is to uninstall/re-install Mobile Partner (which never had such problems in 1703, 1803 or 1903) .... or use a different port, which then only works for 1 - 3 days. Sometimes have to do this 3x/day! Annoying at best.

This works before Shut Down (not necessary before Sleep) to preserve the correct System Tray Internet icon setting and to restore that setting if it doesn't come back at the next Start.

    Shut Down procedure:

    1. Click on light blue Disconnect bar in the middle right of the Mobile Partner window

    2. Instantly Shut Down before Windows re-connects! (important for Shut Down, not necessary for Sleep)

After installation (in which the Internet System Tray icon works correctly), use this procedure again the first time after computer start that the icon does NOT properly show a connection that actually IS working (i.e., the "no Internet connection" instead of the icon lines in triangular formation showing: see in-line attachments below):

    1. Click on light blue Disconnect bar in the middle right of the Mobile Partner window

    2. Re-start Mobile Partner by rt-clicking "Run as administrator"

    3. In Settings disable Mobile Partner

    3. Enable Mobile partner

    4. Then .... if you're lucky Windows will take a long time while indicating "Getting Ready" and finally the System Tray Internet icon will show the triangular "connected" icon! Sometimes have to repeat 1. - 4. to get it to work

"Trick" worked again several times :

Just now, while coming out of a 30 min sleep, the lock screen Internet icon showed as Connected (else it would show the not connected empty globe icon), but once out of sleep, although CONNECTED, the System Tray in Desktop showed the empty NOT Connected Internet globe icon.

I followed the EXACT procedure above and after maybe 30 sec. wait ("Getting ready") .... the triangular lined System Tray Internet icon ("Connected") showed up!

network connectivity icon is giving wrong information

1 month old Dell XPS DT-17-1900 desktop. Windows 10 Home, v 1909. Sometimes, network connectivity icon in system tray indicates no internet access even though I have internet access. Usually, if I restart computer, everything works. Just wondering why it happens in the first place. Thanks.
