Hello to all, I recently got a blue screen of death and could not recover because somehow my admin account was missing so i somehow saved my files and then did a clean install and just added all my files back. Now here I am wanting to do some simple calculations and tried to access my calculator and could not.. I went online to see how to fix and a few pages said to go into powershell as Admin and enter this : in the cmd promt: Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml”}......It began downloading in gr

  2. Start Menu Corrupted - ms-resource:appDisplayName

So after further searching , I found out the following odd facts :

Tried to access my calculator and I get this :ms-resource:appDisplayName ? why? how to fix... [IMG]

So this is the odd app showing in start menu with several other missing apps .

Now few forums suggested this to be a sign of corruption example here .

So forums suggested too that there is a tool to fix corruptions called Start Menu Troubleshooter which wasn't easy to find .

Like always all MS Troubleshooters it managed to state the obvious :

Tried to access my calculator and I get this :ms-resource:appDisplayName ? why? how to fix... [IMG]

Tried to access my calculator and I get this :ms-resource:appDisplayName ? why? how to fix... [IMG]

So searching on for means to fix the corruption since Microsoft was vague enough about this I came across this page here :
The odd thing is my old profile has an XML based setting file and empty database folder :

Tried to access my calculator and I get this :ms-resource:appDisplayName ? why? how to fix... [IMG]

While new profile has no XML file but a database folder :

    Windows 10 Calculator

    Hi,

Some of the reasons why the calculator app will not work properly are: the program encountered a corrupted system files, virus and malware, and another application is conflicting with it.

We suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the calculator. In doing so, you will have a fresh copy of the application which will eliminate the issue. Here are the steps:

    • Right-click on the Start menu.
    • Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Allow the application to make changes, Type in Powershell then, click
      Enter.
    • Type in Get-AppxPackage *windowscalculator* | Remove-AppxPackage then, click
      Enter.
    • Type in Get-AppxPackage *windowscalculator* | Add-AppxPackage then, click
      Enter.
    • Restart the computer after the process and try accessing the menu of the calculator.
Don't hesitate to provide your feedback.
