Windows 10: Tried to change C:\Users\User folder name to account name which ended up creating two user...

Tried to change "User" name in C:\Users\User to match with my account name. But it ended up creating two folders in C:\Users like "User" and "Rahul reddy" folder name that I tried changing name to splitting files between both folders. I tried to restore my device multiple times, but it hasn't restored the device to previous state. I tried many methods and tutorials nothing seems to work for past 4days. Someone please help me fix this. Please ask if you need any other details to understand the issue better, Thanks.

Changing name of User-folder in C:

Hi Kelly,

When you create a new user account in windows 10, it will not give you the option to pick the name of the folder, instead a new folder will be created automatically in
C:\Users\(user-name)" folder's name.

Now you just have to copy all of the contents of your old user accounts "C:\Users\(user-name)" user folders into the corresponding new account's "C:\Users\(user-name)" user folders.

when you create a new user, windows creates folders under the c:\Users directory with the account name (ie Geoff) if you rename the user, although the new name is shown on login etc the directory names don't change.

the easiest way to get rid of Geoff is to -

• change the username to something else (or back to Geoff)
• create a new user with your name
• copy all your documents, photos, videos etc. from Geoff to your new user
• delete the Geoff user account and remove folders etc.

this can all be done in user accounts as suggested by Ruth

Unfortunately, you cannot change the "C:\Users\(user-name)" folder's name. Instead, you can create a new administrator account with the name you want, then copy all of the contents of your old user accounts "C:\Users\(user-name)"
user folders into the corresponding new account's "C:\Users\(user-name)" user folders.

After everything checks out ok, you can then delete the old account from within the new one.
