Tried to fix Bluetooth, lost drivers due to Windows Update error 1058. Tried to do repair...

I have a Macbook Pro that I am running Windows 10 on through Bootcamp. Version 2004, OS Build 19041.630 I was having trouble with my bluetooth connection. I have WI-C200 sony bluetooth earbuds that had been successful in connecting until that Windows 10 update. The volume cuts in and out, and I narrowed that problem down to the relationship between my bluetooth drivers and my network adapters. I know this because the earbuds still connect perfectly to my other devices, including my own computer when running Mac OS X. I uninstalled and reinstalled my bluetooth drivers and network adapters and the problem was gone. This took well over 40 hours in total.

Upon installing the next Windows update, the problem resurfaced. When I tried this fix again, only the network adapters came back. My PC now believes that it does not support bluetooth, nor does it even have the necessary hardware. I know the hardware is intact because I have since booted up the Mac OS X side of my computer, where bluetooth connection worked like a charm. System Restore probably would have worked had I known about it when I first deleted the drivers. However, I had tried several system changes since, which had overwritten the restore points.

I then figured out that Windows Update, which is responsible for reinstalling these drivers, is failing says: “Something went wrong. Try to reopen Settings later.”. This has also resulted in my inability to reinstall Xbox Game Bar, Xbox Console Companion, and Minecraft. “Net start wuauserv” in Command Prompt returns “System error 1058 has occurred. The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.” I cannot stress it enough when I say I have tried every viable fix on the internet.

Renaming the software distribution folder succeeded but had no effect. The same is true for: renaming catroot2, using chkdsk/f C: and sfc scannow which both found no errors, setting the service to automatic, Windows Update Troubleshooter, disabling antivirus I don’t have any third-party antivirus software to begin with, and performing a clean restart. However, there are 2 fixes that failed.

Fail 1: Command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, which returned “Error: 2 An error occurred while attempting to start the servicing process for the image located at C:\. For more information, review the log file. The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log”

Fail 2: Repair Install. This is the farthest I will go, as I am not willing to reset and lose all my apps. Before the second restart involved in the repair install, It gives up and shows a small Windows Setup dialog box that says “Windows installation has failed.” The windows update issue took another 20+ hours.

    :)

  2. Can't remove Microsoft Bluetooth Drivers, tried everything I know.

Exactly as the title says, I'm having quite a bit of trouble removing the generic bluetooth drivers that Windows installs for you. Those have to be gone if I want to install Toshiba Bluetooth Stacks, which I need in order to use my Wii U Pro Controller in my computer. I've gone through a few methods to try this out and all have failed.

I started out by simply uninstalling the drivers on the device manager (or whatever it is called in English). Didn't work, as the drivers were back when I had to plug in my dongle to complete the installation for TBS. When I tried this in Windows 7, it worked flawlessly, yet in Windows 10 this method did not work. Afterwards, I tried deactivating the forced driver signature, as well as make it so Windows Update doesn't automatically download any drivers it finds suitable. On top of this, I traveled into the INF folder of my Windows folder to do steps that Microsoft recommended: rename bth.inf to bth.inf.old and bth.pnf to bth.pnf.old. With all this, it should in theory work right? Nope, it didn't. Not even after a reset.

My last attempt involved unplugging my PC from the Internet as a first step, followed by everything else listed above and then a reset. The drivers were still back, bth.inf and bth.pnf somehow magically appearing in my Windows folder when I have no Internet access. I'm at a loss as to what I'm supposed to do. Anyone care to help?

  3. Bluetooth driver error 10 when converted to Windows 10

    Hi,

    Apologies for the late reply.

Error code 10 is a driver error, as you have already tried to install the drivers I would suggest you to un-install and re-install drivers and check.

    Try the following steps:

    Follow the steps mentioned below:

    • Right on the start icon and click on device manager

    • Select Bluetooth adapter, right click on it and click on un-install.

    • Restart the computer,

    • Now, install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

      Hope this helps.
