Windows 10: Tried to install Ubuntu, now I can’t boot windows.

Hey guys, so I tried installing Ubuntu 16.04 on my Dell XPS 15 and this is the sequence of events and things I did that led to this moment: 1. Write Ubuntu to a USB stick. 2. Install Ubuntu: (to make this happen): - Had to use GRUB to add: nouveau.modeset=0 and acpi=off - Change RAID boot to AHCI 3. When trying to enter Ubuntu after the install I forgot to add the stuff in line 2 and it froze so I shut down the machine. 4. At this point my computer said “Automatic Repair” when trying to get into windows. 5. Nothing worked 6. I tried setting the machine back to RAID 7. I removed the “Ubuntu” by unticking it in the boot sequence in the BIOS. 8. I accidentally also removed the Windows 10 boot sequence (Not sure how to fix that) 9. At this point I have no idea as to what to do because I can’t access Ubuntu or Windows.

How to go about building a tri-boot system?

i dual boot all the time, and going in to tri boot is easy.

step 1) partition the drive in to 3 partitions ( leaving 1 empty for the linux installer. )
step 2) install windows on the first 2 partitions.
step 3) install linux, and let it auto partition the remaining space. ( i recommend at least 30gb of space for linux, because it will make things a lot easier. )

step 4) enjoy.

 

Can't Install Ubuntu

Is there a reason why my 2ndary drive can't install ubuntu.

tried the bios boot to dvd-rom and 2nd is hdd. burned ubuntu iso on to the dvd already but somehow it can't seem to boot it.

am i doing something wrong? i tried installing it on the 2ndary hdd but that doesn't seem to work either. should i boot in CMD and then run a command to boot the iso?

Are you doing a clean install?

Also if you are doing a clean install may I suggest this. Delete and format all partitions and let Ubuntu allocate the drive. You might have some MBR files left on the HD that is conflicting with Ubuntu booting.
