  1. Tried Windows Photos Indexing - taking a week- how to cancel?

I recently realized that Windows Photos viewer could index my external hard drive which would maybe make it easier for me to use that app to browse my photos and stuff. So I initiated that process the other day, but I think my hard drive is too big and it’s taking forever. My hard drive is like 12TB and probably has 3TB of data on it. Since I wasn’t really using this functionality before, I’m done with waiting on it and would like to just cancel the process. However, my screen is black and won’t come up, and it seems my computer has just been running this indexing in the background this whole

    :)

  2. Search Indexer resets itself after about a week

    I'm experiencing a strange behavior with a Server 2012 R2 machine.

Our client asked why searches on their network drives were so slow. So I suggested we turn on Search Indexing on the server for their share.

Now the drive has about 600,000 items, and it usually takes half a day to build up the index. Everything works great once it's built, but after about a week, it'll reset the Indexing service. The list of indexed places is cleared, and all I can do is go
back and add folder, but then it has to build the index from scratch once more.

If I could automate the process of adding the folder back to the list, I'd do that, but I haven't found a way of doing that.

Better yet, would be that the index doesn't clear itself about once a week.

From what I can tell, the clearing doesn't line up with restarts of the server.

Photo app in Windows 10 is extremely slow

Rebuilding the search index in your computer may help speed-up the loading of photos in the app. The search index is like a directory of files and media in your computer. Follow the steps below:

    • Click Start.
    • On the search bar, type Indexing Options, and click on Indexing Options from the results.
    • Click Advanced.
    • Under Troubleshooting, click Rebuild.

We also suggest that you download and install any pending updates that needs to be installed on the computer through Windows Update and check if it helps resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, you may reinstall the Photos app. For steps on how to uninstall and reinstall the Photos app, follow the steps provided by Anil Madishetty on this thread:

Why won't my Photos app load on Windows 10
    .
