Windows 10: Trouble connecting projector to laptop

I am running Windows 11 on a Dell XPS 15 9500. I have been unable to get the projectors at church to connect via a HDMI cable to my laptop. I connect my laptop to my TV wirelessly with a wireless HDMI device plugged into the TV. I've tried Windows Key + P and Windows Key + K but can't get the laptop to recognize the projector. The projectors are Hitachi cp-x-401 so they are probably 14 or 15 years old. I'd appreciate someone with more IT experience than I have helping me understand what is wrong.

trouble connecting windows 10 laptop to projector

So I have a windows 10 laptop and I only really have a USB cable for output. I bought an HDMI to USB cable to connect the USB from my laptop to the HDMI on my projector. The projector is set to the HDMI input but it doesn't pick up anything from my computer,
It says it's looking for a connection. Do I need a different cable? my computer also says there's nothing it's connected to. any advice highly appreciated.
