Windows 10: Trouble opening any documents on my PC

I don't know if it's a problem with my laptop in general or a glitch in windows 10 specifically so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has encountered anything similar.


I'm having trouble opening the documents app, either on the home screen or via any programs like google chrome. I'll click on the folder icon, the documents will come up for a few seconds, then my screen will go white for a moment and the documents will close. A similar thing happens when I open documents in google chrome, like when saving a picture. If I persist and keep clicking on the documents it will eventually stay open but it sometimes takes 10 minutes and via google chrome, it rarely works.


Is this a glitch in Windows 10 or something wrong with my computer? It's not exactly broken so I don't want to send it in for repairs, but I'd like to find a way to fix it...

Documents/Pictures folders under 'This PC' refer to onedrive - not the local folders

Since the only folder that has incorrect file path is the Documents folder under This PC, we would suggest you do the same steps provided above. However, do it in your Documents folder under This PC. To do so, kindly follow the steps below:

• Open File Explorer
• Click This PC
• Right-click on Documents
• Click Properties
• Click Location
• Click Restore Default
• Click Apply
• Click OK

1. Is it any specific document, a document type or all documents, you are unable to open?
   
2. What happens when you try to open the documents?
   
3. Do you get any error message while trying to open the documents?

Trouble Opening PDF's

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
• Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

• Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
• Click on Preferences and select Internet.
• Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.
