  1. Trouble updating from build 1909 to 2004

    Hello everyone,

I'm just trying to update my laptop to the latest build. However, I keep getting error 0x80004005.

I tried with the Media Creation Tool, and when it approaches 100% it eventually closes abruptly and says something similar to "Windows installation failed" (e.g., no code given).

The laptop is 5 months old.

    Asus FX705DT

    Windows 10 Pro

AMD Ryzen 7 3750H with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.30 GHz

    24.0 GB RAM

    Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650

Boot drive is a 2TB M.2 and other storage is on a 2TB 2.5" HDD.

Setupact.log and setupapi.offline.log are at this link (if this thread is still ongoing in a week, remind me and I'll replace the link):

(I used "find and replace" to replace my user folder name with "Bob" in setupact.log, although even if that missed something, I think I left the nuclear secrets on the other computer.)

I've tried emptying the Temp folders, resetting Windows Update, and system file check. No dice. What happens is that after I hit restart, the progress goes up to 50%, but then it shuts down and restarts as normal.

More than a little confused, since my experiences with similar situations in the past usually had messages to the effect of "We couldn't install the updates -- undoing changes..." But that has been completely absent. It just starts up as normal, and only the Windows Update window shows the failure message.

The Windows Update troubleshooter, run repeatedly, always shows the contents of the attached picture.

If anyone can help me figure this out, it'd be greatly appreciated.
