Windows 10: Trouble updating to Windows 1903

I have tried upgrading a few months ago and here I am again trying to update my computer from Windows 10 1809 to 1903 again. It's the same problem and I'll explain it. Basically, I think there's something to do with Windows not recognizing or working well with the GPU(s). I currently am running an external GPU (GTX 670) via ExpressCard EXP GDC to my laptop and am using an external display with it. The iGPU (Intel HD 3000) is connected to my internal laptop display and I left it enabled but disabled the dGPU (NVIDIA NVS 4200M) in case I ran into any problems (NVIDIA Optimus, etc.). And that all worked out fine but when I finished upgrading from Windows 10 1809 to 1903, my monitor/external display wasn't working (the eGPU was still on and connected) and only the internal display worked. So I went digging around and found out that in Device Manager, Windows disabled my eGPU because it was reporting problems and therefore that was why it recognized the eGPU but couldn't send a video signal to it to my monitor. However, the dGPU (the one I purposely disabled before) got re-enabled somehow and before I could do any more poking around I got a BSOD saying that there was a "video scheduler internal error". So I restarted my computer and was left with the same results until Windows prompted me to the advanced restore settings after I booted it up and I restored my computer back to version 1809 (uninstalled the 1903 update) and everything worked fine. So I was wondering if there was a way to fix this so that I can update my computer successfully?

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Cannot update to 1903

O_O thats a lot of steps. Starting in a few mins. Quick question though:
You list a set of instructions for "Windows 10 iso as an in place upgrade repair" with links, and then you included a box for "Routine troubleshooting steps" with 13 steps including links.

Which should I be following first?

PLEASE don't hate me for asking this as this just occurred to me. Should I try the update in Safe mode? I downloaded the MediaCreationTool 1903, but it wasn't successful in doing the update, nor was it successful in creating Usb install.

If I understand correctly, in simple terms, you are suggesting changing the path/method of obtaining the 1903 update but still installing it anyway -

Surely if the problem is actually with the 1903 update then the result will be the same problems irrespective of how it is applied?

Please could you clarify in simple terms, step by step, what your suggested actions actually do and how this may solve the problem.
