Windows 10: Trouble with sound in apps

    Trouble with sound in apps


    Dear people who are smarter than me.

    Recently my sound has quit and I can't find out why. I have tried some stuff with reinstalling the soundsystem but that didnt do the trick. The weird thing is that the sound in my browser does work, but in-appsounds don't. So if I open spotify on my laptop it will play but I can't hear anything, neither when I plug in headphones. but in browser, the sound for spotify does work. Same goes for Netflix and Popcorn time.

    I am running windows 10, I appreciate your efforts in advance!

    Is there anyone who has a solution for me?

    Good surround sound headset

    I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue Trouble with sound in apps :p

    Sound Quality

    One thing that sticks out from looking at your "My Computer" specs. You list "ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)" which suggests you do not have the correct sound hardware driver. Your motherboard has Realtek sound and the first step is to install the Realtek sound drivers. My ASUS also came with Sonic Studio 2 which is a sound enhancement package. Check the ASUS install disc to see if you have something similar.

    May not be a speaker problem.

    I suggest you to follow the methods provided below and check if it helps.

    Method 1: Restore drivers to default.

    • In taskbar, on system tray right click on volume icon.
    • Select Playback devices.
    • Under playback tab. Click on Speaker/Headphone.
    • Click on Properties tab.
    • Go to Advance tab.
    • Click on Restore to default.
    If the issue still persist, I suggest you to run the troubleshooter and check.

    Method 2: Hardware and Device troubleshooter.



    • Press Windows Key + X key, Click on Control Panel.
    • Type troubleshooting in the search bar, click on troubleshooting.
    • Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
    • Follow the steps from the wizard to run the troubleshooter.
