Windows 10: Troubleshooting and Repairing win 10

I am having a 'Shutdown' and 'Restart' freezing problem and am asking if there is any particular MS 'log' that might reveal what is causing the system to stop?

Also, is there an "Error Code List" for win 10 that might reveal the source of the shutdown problem ?

Mine is WIN 10.

Hi,

Try booting the machine with Win 10 Installation Media...

Select REPAIR on the lower left of the Install screen, then Troubleshoot...

Click on Startup Repair..

When you click on Troubleshoot it may automatically start a Automatic Startup Repair which may or may not work...

Do not use the newest Fall Creator's Update for this as it's Startup Repair features are not functioning properly...

Does this machine use UEFI Bios ?

It makes a difference when doing a repair..

start by checking that out if theres anything that you could spot on overall.
then check the errors logs and use the tool here Events and Errors Message Center: Advanced Search

 

Well if you have MY PC as a shortcut on your desktop you can right click on it and select manage. Then go to event viewer and look at the logs for errors.

There are other ways to to get to it so just google getting to Event viewer in windows 10.

I did discover, (in the events list), that a driver for one of my USB thumb drives was at fault.

So far, I can now re-start the system without it freezing.

I have a number of errors.

One error = - EventData
