    Troubleshooting USB 3.1 backward compatible cabling issues.


    My new self built computer has USB 2.0, USB 3.1 A and C ports.
    Windows 10 64bit, MSI SLI Plus motherboard

    I have an external RAID with a USB 3.0 B port that works on a HP laptop W7 64bit and works on a W7 desktop with an Asus MB.

    Using the same USB 3.0 A to B cable, the external RAID is not seen by the OS on the USB 3.1 A port on my new MSI Windows 10 computer.

    Using another USB 3.0 A to B cable, the RAID is seen on the MSI Windows 10 computer.

    All I can conclude it is a cable issue. Not all USB 3.0 cables are capable of backward compatibility when used on a USB 3.1 A port.

    Is it the drivers in Windows 10 causing the issue? Is it the MSI firmware? is t the difference in the cable manufacturers construction?

    Do I need to use a USB 3.1 A to B cable on a USB 3.0 device attached to a USB 3.1 port?

    Are there any wizards out there that can solve this dilemma?
