Windows 10: Trying Something new

Hello,
Preparing to remove AVG antivirus, I read carefully all your answers and made some experiments, downloaded "bitdefender" both versions, the 'offline' and the 'online' from same site, and 'revo uninstaller portable'.
Then I put my pc in "time freeze' mode to chk them both. First installed 'revo' then tried to install the offline 'bitdefender' but it made a notice "could not find bitdefender product" and closed. Then I went online and started the installation again, it downloaded and downloaded, started the installation, then it found AVG and said I have to remove it first, since I have not yet removed it, I closed the bitdefender notice window, then a new window opened to create an account - what is this account ?
To chk 'revo' I started it to 'uninstall' bitdefender, but first it started to create a restore point... after that it removed bitdefender and its remains.
After all this I restarted pc to get out from 'time freeze' mode, back to normal.
Now I wonder what is the 'Account' with bitdefener, and why could not install it from the offline installer.
I would like to install it offline, because when I first have to uninstall AVG and bitdefender is not installed offline - have to go online without any antivirus protection.

Amazing - this is still broken after all this time. Disabling my network connection allowed me to add a local user.

I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread and nothing works. My connection was already set to private and I have no access to my command window. What? That's right - when I do Windows + X and click Command Prompt (or Command Prompt Admin), a
window opens and instantly closes. This computer has had this problem even with previous operating systems. I've searched and search but can't find a solution. So, does anyone else have any suggestions about how to add another user to my systems?

 

In general using a 3rd party tool to uninstall AVs is not recommended.

Your first port of call, if you can't uninstall the AV normally, is to get hold of the supplier's uninstall tool.

 

As dalchina mentioned using any 3rd party program to uninstall an A/V product is NOT recommended. Even one as highly regarded as Revo, which I use and recommend btw. When uninstalling a A/V you should go to their website or a trusted site at least and download their own dedicated uninstaller.

Its been a long time since I've used Bitdefender but if I remember correctly the "account" you mention is just an email thing so they can spam you. They aren't too bad about it ..... again if I remember correctly.

You sound like its the end of the world to go online without an A/V on your machine. Of course I use one but for a regular user , which I assume you are, the simple act of going online for a short period doesn't really put you at a major risk. Its actually quite hard to contract a REAL virus, you have to really work at it. Malware and spyware is rather easier to contract but if you're just going online to get a new copy of your preferred A/V then it shouldn't be a cause for worry. Besides, if nothing else, Windows built in Defender should keep you reasonably safe.

 

My AVG (free version) stopped working. I uninstalled it via the Control Panel "Change or Remove a Program". It took some time but worked. Then I re-installed AVG from their site.

 

If you uninstalled AVG, then Windows Defender will automatically start up. So you have protection when going online.
Yes, Bitdefender makes you go through their account, and it is not only to gently "spam" you, but also to prevent cracks and activators etc. You just have to play the game their way, or choose a different AV.
